Extracts from The Power of Myth

While I find Campbell exasperating at times, he is usually interesting to read. The Moyers interviews seem to have taken on a mythic quality over the years...which is really exasperating ;-) If the subject interests you, I'd recommend this book A Short History of Myth as a good place to start. Its more of a long essay and without the depth of Campbell. But the author does a decent job and keeps the reader engaged.

I realize this is supposed to be fun, but the questions are so one sided. There should be one like: "What three words describe your worst? A)shrill, grasping, codependent B)angry, malicious, cruel C)petty, manipulative, cowardly But then peoples "creatures" would be harpies, gorgons and basilisks! Not cool ones like centaurs and wood nymphs :-)

The Four Horsemen,The Legend of Sleepy Hollow-the Wild Hunt is still out there, riding at the fringe of our consciousness. A comfort, in a way, in this age of plastic and silicon.

photo by http://www.flickr.com/photos/trav28/ Another echo from our past. Maybe not as far away as we'd like to think. At least I hope so. We had a Green Man tucked away in the back of one of my childhood yards. Every garden should have one keeping a watchful eye on the place.
