Puppy mills? Another term I wish I'd never heard about. A philosopher once said that a society will be judged by how they treat their weakest members. Looks like we haven't done so well in that regard. But at least someone is taking action to shut down these horrors. And no politician is going to come out in favor of "puppy mills"...except maybe Darth Cheney. So there's a good chance the cause will succeed.
This photo from the website is a bit much though: Obama, with a crippled dog, in front of the Lincoln Memorial?
But you can check out Baby's story here. And here's a link to a puppy mill (That term really, really gets to me!) resuce organization. They could use our support. To let your elected officials know how you feel, go here.
This current situation is not the end of the world. But it probably is the end of the American Dream for most of us. Corporate greed and individual materialism have exposed some serious fault lines in our society.
Seriously, how long could a culture that pours billions into places like Las Vegas and Disneyworld yet allows the mentally ill to die homeless on the street, sustain itself? With a collective moral compass so off the beam, something had to give eventually. Perhaps for the better.
But I do love this country, warts and all. And wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The years to come will be frustrating and difficult, but America has survived worse than this.
