I just finished his book, 1421-quite an engrossing & entertaining read. He proposes that several massive Chinese fleets circumnavigated the globe in the early 1400's. And had regular contact with the Americas long before the Europeans. The evidence presented does make a compelling argument, but just to be fair, this is a site debunking his theories.

The site is new but has some useful links and shows promise. And really anyone could benefit from the Buddhist writings on attachments, suffering, mindfulness and meditation-you don't have to be addicted to something. I'm not that attracted to the Zen tradition (too austere for this wandering Catholic) but I found this book on the 12 Steps very helpful with my own process.
